Here is a snippet of the interview with our founder:
The Brash Foundation – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
So Brash is a nonprofit youth foundation for adolescent girls ages 10-16 struggling with self-confidence. There is also a mentor program for girls transitioning into womanhood, ranging from ages 17-20. Brash mainly caters to young girls of color and the reason for that is because I feel that the limits and boundaries for young black girls are a lot more on front street than it is for any other race. Being an African American woman is difficult because there are world standards and “Black standards”. In Black culture, the expectation is to be plump in all the right areas, turn heads with your beauty and be poised but not stuck up. When you’re in that realm of not fitting in due to looks and not meeting other “requirements” you get singled out and made fun of. I was that young girl! I had long hair, dimples, bucked teeth and I was chubby! I was ridiculed for my appearance in grade school and it broke me. Sure my family told me I was beautiful but they are family, that’s what they were supposed to say. I remember hating being Black and it wasn’t until 2017 that I really started loving my culture! Being Black is LIT! I mean, I love all people and I love all cultures and never discriminate but I LOVE being Black. The possibilities of greatness are endless! Black women alone has so many dope characteristic ranging from being a super mom to being the CEO of the largest firm in the world. I wanted to give young girls the opportunity that wasn’t offered to me when I was a young girl and that is to be a positive role model that offers another option to live happy!
Being a new foundation, I do everything and I love it! I love learning new things to better grow the brand and bring awareness. I graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations and Marketing and it came in handy when it was time to market Brash. I’m super proud of how Brash is coming together! God is doing something super amazing for Brash and I can’t wait until it all unfolds and changes the lives of every girl who decides to be a part of it.
